Blogging as a career or even as a side income is a relatively new phenomenon. Most people don’t know how bloggers make money. In fact, many bloggers don’t know how other bloggers make money. Unlike traditional jobs, bloggers income generally doesn’t come from one place. Optimizing your income as a blogger takes constant tweaking, experimentation, and research.
Which is why it’s so wonderful that some bloggers choose to share their income. Yes, sharing your income is a little weird. Yes, it might turn some people off. But I can’t tell you how grateful I am for the bloggers who chose to share how much they are making and where that income is coming from.
Income reports have often helped me optimize my advertising and find new streams of revenue.
Here are some bloggers who release income reports that I have found extremely helpful.
If you’ve seen someones income reports, it’s probably Pinch of Yum. Lindsay and Bjork release their income and expenses every month, as well as some strategy and commentary. Their reports date back to 2011. In February 2015 they made over $26,000! They do a fair amount of experimenting and their reports are a great way to find new opportunities for monetization.
I generally love (and sort of idolize) Regina. She gives smart, actionable business and creative advice. I find her writing style easy to read – it sounds like you’re talking to your smartest friend.
Abby is a lifestyle blogger who releases her income reports and expenses each month.
Retired by 40 is written by Gretchen, an accountant who plans to retire by 40 by creating passive income streams to support her family. She’s also got tons of great advice for how to make the most of Pinterest.
Jessica is a food scientist by profession whose recipes and food photography will make you drool. Jessica has been sharing her income reports since last June. What I like about Jessica’s income reports is that she is more on my level. She’s certainly not a beginner but she’s also not making tens of thousands of dollars a month. It’s refreshing to find someone who is sharing their income in the earlier days of monetization.
Michelle is a blogger who has managed to take her side hustle full-time. Her first income report in May 2012 showed her monthly income of $672. Last month, she made over $15,000!
I’m a huge fan of Pat Flynn’s and after discovering his Smart Passive Income podcast, I’ve been listening to at least an episode a day. He’s got a ton of incredible content on his blog and in the podcast episodes. You’re sure to be inspired. Pat releases his income every month and he’s making the big bucks. Last month (yes, month) he made over $150,000!
What do you think of blogs releasing their income reports? Do you find them as helpful as I do?
