Honest feedback is so important to help grow your blog. Feedback will help you know what changes to make, what’s working, what isn’t, and help retain readers. Getting such feedback however, is a challenge.
Asking friends and family will inevitably lead to biased (albeit, kind) answers. Asking blogging friends may get you some feedback but they might be afraid to hurt your feelings. They also might be too close to blogging to be able to give truly neutral feedback. And on occasion you might receive unsolicited negative feedback that will hurt to hear.
So where can you get honest feedback about your blog or website? Feedback to make your blog better? For FREE?
Peek describes itself as “a free usability testing tool provided by Usertesting, the worlds leading user research platform”. Peek allows you to type in your domain name and within three days, you’ll receive a video of a first-time visitor using your site.
The video includes audio and as the person checks out your site, they answer questions which appear in the corner of their screen.
Those questions include:
- What is your first impression of this web page? What is this web page for?
- What is the first thing you would like to do on this page? Please go ahead and do that now and describe your experience.
- What stood out to you on this website? What, if anything, frustrated you about this site? Please summarize your thoughts regarding this website.
My Peek Results
My Peek video for Blog Brighter arrived at my inbox about 8 hours after submitting my domain name. My test user was a gentleman from the UK. His feedback was brutally honest (and frankly, a bit hard to hear), but incredibly helpful.
He gave some general feedback and some quite specific suggestions. From rearranging the order of my blog navigation to adding more content for beginner bloggers, his advice made a lot of sense and pointed things out that I had not noticed.
I have to say, at first, I was a little heartbroken. This site that I’d worked so hard on these last few months was far from perfect. But I took that feedback and am working on making it a better experience for new and existing readers. Once I make those changes, I’ll use Peek again and I’ll continue to improve.
That’s exactly what the Peek service can do for you. You can get up to 3 videos from Peek per month for free. Try it out and let me know what you think!
